In pursuance of our mission to support the enhancement of Corporate Governance within our clients’ business, we emphasize the adding of value through the application of high level assurance and advisory services to areas of material risk. We apply a qualitative risk-based internal audit approach, which is founded on detailed knowledge of the business under review. GFIA’s Chief Executive Officer, Mr Johnnie Mokae, opened the first GFIA Governance Update Workshop on 10 October 2008 at the Midrand Protea Hotel. The workshop was attended by in excess of 70 public and private sector delegates.
The 2008 and 2009 updates were presented by Nigel Payne, a Director of GFIA and corporate governance, internal audit and risk management guru. The next Governance Update Workshop is scheduled for October 2010.
We believe that our annual workshop is an important initiative in promoting good governance in South Africa. It is imperative that the fundamental principles of good financial, social, ethical and environmental practices are instilled within corporate South Africa, including the public sector.
